We just love having the alpacas around and look forward to many years enjoyment with them.
Our farm, Incamon Alpaca Stud is located on the south side of Taree (4km) on 30 acres. We have 2 dams, 11 paddocks, and currently run 45 alpacas, 14 cattle and Savannah our horse. Our dams attract many different species of birds including many ducks and the odd Pelican. The average rain fall for the area is 1,200mm (48 inches) per annum.
Richard is no stranger to farms as he grew up on large properties but Robin and Michael were new comers’ to the experience, and just love every moment. Initially we were going to have a few cows and calves and a horse, however, after meeting some of these lovely alpaca creatures we purchased our first two in 2004 and we grew from there. We thought that 20 breeding females would be our optimum number and plan to have around 20 crias born in 2007. We have now acquired sufficient stock to achieve our goal.
In early 2006 we purchased Morning Star Blue Boy a lovely silver grey certified male who has the personality to match his beauty. We plan to specialise in breeding silver grey huacaya’s but also have other colours including solid blacks and whites. Standing at Stud we have Morning Star Blue Boy (silver grey) & Bryanna Kimba (Solid White). We also have several promising young males coming through. Our breeding plan is to build our herd by breeding in animals with good confirmation, bone structure & fleece characteristics. Our alpaca numbers will grow organically and to ensure that we have enough quality grass to manage without heavy hand feeding we will reduce our cattle numbers.
We have learnt so much since purchasing our first alpacas and we now look forward to showing some of our young animals in 2007. This will be a new learning curve for us but one that we will enjoy. We have found the alpaca farming community to be very supportive to newcomers and that is something we have fostered and will continue the journey to build this great industry and pass our knowledge and experiences onto others.

We specialize in silver grey and black huacaya but also have several rose greys, fawns and browns carrying recessive black. We are keen on the animals and on their fleece. All our fleece is used--we spin it, sell it, donate it, and pad the rows between the vegetables with what is otherwise useless.
Although we want to improve the alpacas in every way we can, we would most like to produce nice-looking, vigorous animals of silver grey and blue black colour with very even, soft fleeces, without hair, that remain usable as long as possible.

Quialigo via Goulburn NSW | | About this breeder: | After a lifetime of cattle breeding amongst other things, we decided to look for stock that could compliment our property, “Paddington Park” in Kangaroo Valley. We ran a hideaway called “The Heavens” and some cattle. After following the alpaca scene around for approximately two years, the female member of this partnership decided it was to be Alpacas that graced the lush green pastures of their mountain retreat.
Beginning in 1993 with 2 pregnant females which cost an arm and a leg at that time, and fortunately being blessed with two female cria we were off… Steadily our herd grew, as did our Show successes. Then came our agistors, of whom we became very involved in their education and breeding programmes.
Having a medical background as well as a rural one proved to be a bonus, and Open days, Education days and time spent with other breeders proved a wonderful and social interacting time. Becoming the Breed Captain for Sydney RAS Show for 9 years was a great experience, having shown cattle with the family since I was a child proved to be be of great benefits to us in the Alpaca industry, knowing what and how to get our industry going through the RAS. I still feel that this is our greatest advertising outlet to the general public in NSW. There were a lot of skills which were to be brought to the alpaca area at the RAS.
Being a director on the first formed Alpaca Fleece Co-operative was another new experience and where I was fortunate enough to learn so much about what the mills require. We still have a long way to go in this field, and I feel a lot more knowledge is required here perhaps from woollen mill experts. Watching the fleece progress over the years from our first imported Chilean stock to the improvement from imported Peruvian genetics has been a privilege and a wonderful one to be part of. Then with the event of the Suri coming to Australia and watching breeders learn about this silken fleece has indeed been another great opportunity. I never get over enjoying city folk who have come over to the rural scene learning and enjoying this wonderful alpaca.
In early 2000 circumstances brought us to Goulburn where we felt the more natural pasture may be more in keeping with the alpaca natural grazing habits. This proved to be so, and our alpacas thrived. As well there is a great network of breeders nearby who get in and assist one another and always there for advice or to be able to help one another. We continue to assist others with medical knowledge learned from our wonderful vet and his associates. We have been blessed with Bill Beresford from Moss Vale from the beginning and he continues to teach us all along the way and is always there to advise us with anything; we are eternally grateful to him for all his down to earth knowledge and skills he has handed on to us.
We run approximately 200 alpacas, our own and agisted, on 100 acres here. We also have access to a nearby property on which most of our wethers are run, when we have some…. |

Canyonleigh is in the vicinity of Arthursleigh where the first alpacas were located after their importation from South America.

We now have a herd of approximately 100 alpacas on 38 hectares (approximately 100 acres). Some of these animals are agistees’ that have chosen to take advantage of the quality services that we provide. Our property is on the Johnes MAP and we currently have MN2 status.
Dunnhill Alpacas place a premium on our quality white alpacas but strive through our breeding principles to improve the quality of the coloured animals within the herd. In 2005 Dunnhill Alpacas became an Associate Member of the SRS® Alpaca Breeding System.
Our herd is supplementary fed every afternoon and kept in smaller secure night paddocks with a Maremma guard dog.

Wilton Park NSW | | About this breeder: | From an initial move to Mittagong, and after attending a “Farming for the Future” course, it was decided that alpacas would allow Glenda and Daryl Salmon to have the rural “dream”. The first challenge was to search for and set up a farm from scratch. As a result, Belbourie became a purpose designed alpaca farm, nestled in the foothills of the Southern Highlands. It comprises 40 acres of predominately native pasture, with a layout of fenced paddocks connected by strategic laneways to facilitate stock movement and rotational grazing. Belbourie is conveniently located near the Picton exit from the Hume Highway, 45 mins from the Sydney GPO.
In 5 years, the breeding herd has grown from an initial purchase of 2 Peruvian breeding females to 65 animals. The selection of elite white huacaya genetics has further enhanced the benchmark characteristics of fleece and conformation. Auzengate, Bellissimo ElPrado, Minderoo, Valentino, Tulaco, Ultimo, Warrior, Yavari, and Windsong Valley Iceman have been the sires. The result: 17 championships in 2 years of showing at Royal and regional shows. In 2005, there were 2 Supreme Fleeces; the Bathurst Royal (Belbourie Crusader), and the Hawkesbury Show (Belbourie Guinivere). The 2005 shearing report includes 17 animals with a comfort factor of 100% in ages from 6mths to 2 years. After careful consideration of which fleece style to pursue, Belbourie Alpacas has become an associate member of the SRS breeding program.
Although alpaca artificial insemination (AI) is still a long way off, the ground work being done by the team from Sydney University Veterinary School is vital. Belbourie Montrose, a Charles Ledger Mature Champion, was an eager participant in the program; his prowess with “Consuela” (the alpaca doll) has been widely published!
